Food and Care

This is a list of foods that our Turkish Angora cats are used to and the type of kitty litter that we find to be best.

Also, we mention the things that you need to help with infections and other health problems.

Paws Raw Kangaroo Meat

Paws is sold at Woolworths or Coles in a 3 kilo pack. It is kept in the refrigerator that is in the Pet Food aisle.

The cost per pack currently is $15.70 for 3 kilos.

Lactose-Free Milk

We give lactose-free milk to our cats. We buy the UHT milk in a long-life pack from the section for humans, not for cats. There is no need to spend high amounts of money on cat milk.

We find that our cats won’t drink the milk bought from Aldi. They only drink the milk from Coles or Woolworths.

It’s very economical – only $1.70 per litre.

Kitten Biscuits

Our cats eat dry kitten biscuits. They seem to prefer the kitten ones to the adult ones. We usually buy Coles brand, but they will also eat the Woolworths version of the same thing. They don’t like the Aldi brand.

One x 1 kilo bag or box of Coles or Woolworths brand costs $2.80.

Smitten Canned Food

This is something that they are adamant about. They won’t eat Coles or Aldi canned food. They will only eat Woolworths canned food. They turn their nose up at the Sardine version though, so don’t waste your money on this one.

Each can costs $0.85.

Chicken

Our cats line up for baked chicken. All that we do is put a chicken in the oven until it is cooked but still moist, and the cats can’t wait to be fed! No salt or any other spices are needed. They will drink up the juices that are left over as well. Just pour them into a dish for the cats to drink from, and by the next morning it will all be gone!

Pinewood Pellets for Kitty Litty

We have found that Pinewood Pellets work best for their kitty litter. It absorbs all smells and last for much longer than regular kitty litter. Also, it doesn’t produce any dust or particles that float in the air, which are bad for the cats’ lungs.

You need only one and a half cups of pellets in your kitty litter tray, and they will last quite a few days before they need to be replaced. Of course, you do have to take the solids out each day, but the product will last several days. It is the most economical solution to their kitty litter requirements that we have found.

We sell bags of 15 litres of Pine Pellets for $17.95. Please see the page dedicated to that for more information.

Energel for Sick Cats

We buy Energel from the local pet and farm produce warehouse. When a cat is not feeling well and won’t eat, we give them Energel using a syringe. This will help if they have gone off their food.

They also need Hartmanns solution to be injected into the skin at the back of their neck when they are dehydrated, but you should get instructions on that from your vet. There are instructional videos on youtube to help you remember what your vet has told you.
